Anyone can write a topic and anyone can edit it too; think Wikipedia ... and previous versions of a topic can be viewed, compared and rolled back too. A discussion thread can be built around any topic. Topics are built in a template which effectively ‘shape' the content creation, suggesting what fields would be useful. For example an ARTIST topic template would have a different clutch of fields to an EVENT. There will be minimal compulsory fields. Topics will usually have items linked to them, but not necessarily. They are effectively gathering points for drawing clusters of items together and a way to capture and craft the collective knowledge of our community which is not written down or recorded anyway. Anyone can group items together via a topic : this could be the jigsaw-rage of the noughties! Just imagine an active community spending happy evenings gathering items together into meaningful topic-baskets which they have written themselves!
