Topic: Kete Users Group Meeting : 1st December (day after NDF)
Topic type:
After loads of discussions at LIANZA we have decided to hold a Kete User Group meeting in Wellington on the day after the 2007 National Digital Forum. The meeting will be on Saturday 1st December (venue to be arranged). We think it would be good to get together everyone interested in getting involved in the Kete project to discuss the whole project. No agenda yet but I think we could usefully work out a governance structure, a process for shaping or guiding development, identifying paths forward for new Kete installations, work out or the different parties are and who wants to fund what etc etc. Happy to hear other suggestions - so email me if you are interested or leave a comment. Look forward to catching up again soon, Jo.

I have added a corresponding event here:

I would encourage discussion to move to that topic.
Cheers,
Walter

Who we'd like to come:
* People/Organisations who already have a Kete install, or who have one underway
* People who would like to have a Kete
* People who are interested in supporting Kete even though they don't have a particular project in mind for it.
* People who have heard of Kete but haven't managed to get to one of Jo's talks so want to find out more.

ERG I wrote a big long post and it got eaten in the DB update, so hopefully I've rememberd it -
So we could have something like
- A quick Kete intro for the uninitiated - to the software
- Confirmed Kete projects, the functionality they are going to add & time lines associated with that
- Prospective Kete projects - what you're planning, timeframes
- Kete Project Governance/Management - options, costs
- Our wish list for functionality
AND then possibly a "practical" stream like
- Quiz the developers
- DIY options
- Strategies for getting & keeping volunteers
- Things you can do within Kete
I think that there are 4 "streams" or interest groups/areas, and that might be quite a lot of stuff for one day, so we'll need to prioritise, and possibly have a couple of sessions or something.
1/. Users: Have kete projects already underway or close to, so the practicalities of Kete, training, volunteers and how to get your project humming seem good interesting stuff.
2/. Prospects: Have a Kete project in mind, or have heard of it and want to see if it's good for them. Lots of questions about how it works, costs, will it fit with their organisation, IT, how to add new features etc
3/. Supporters: Don't have a particular project themselves but interested in Kete, want to support it in some way - publicity & promotion, website etc
4/. Governance: Currently HLT & Katipo as a benign dictatorship, funded by them. How to share costs of overall project management & code review/release.

Ok - Well the pre-conference ideas is a dead duck! It will definitely be post-NDF. I am trying to see if it can be an UN-Conference session at Te Papa, but will advise details as soon as I can.
cheers Jo.
