Topic: Things to consider when planning a Kete installation
Topic type:
What should you consider when thinking about setting up a new Kete.
Originally written by Walter McGinnis, Kete Project Lead for Katipo Communications, Ltd.
Hosting a Kete website requires the following things:
- suitable hardware for the website to run on
- facilities to house the hardware
- a network connection (though some Kete sites can be run "offline")
- the supporting software be installed, see Technical Requirements
Depending on the route you take to host your Kete, you can achieve these in different ways. You maybe able to purchase all or some of the above from a vendor if you need to.
Other things to consider:
- What planning do you need for your project to best take advantage of Kete?
- Would training of your Kete administrators be useful?
- Would training of your staff for technical support or technical development be useful?
- Do you have existing items that may need to be imported?
- Are there features that Kete doesn't have that you need added?
- Do need graphic design work done for your new Kete?
You may have the expertise to do all or some of the above. Take a look around old.kete.net.nz to see what others have done. Ask questions or write new topics. It enhances the community and helps us all go farther.
As you probably have guessed already, these are things that Katipo or other vendors should be able to help you with.
