Topic: Thoughts on governance of the Kete project

Topic type:

The Kete project is approaching the time when we need to find a method to coordinate future development of the code.

This flow diagram is offered as a starting point for discussion.

It is based on a couple of premises:

  • That a Kete board for a Kete organisation is established representing programmers, host organisations and contributors.
  • That members 'join' the organisation, can nominate board members, and contribute an annual fee to pay for co-funding of enhancements with shared benefits.
  • The board defines and defends the guiding principles / integrity of the Kete project: ie for the people by the people, not overdesigned, can be clever but has to look simple etc.
  • That people may choose to develop enhancements with out referring to the board - and thats fine.
  • That all deveopments and enhancements and changes to the code should be considered in relation to the main trunk.
