Announcing the new convert_attachment_to Ruby on Rails plugin. Built for Kete, but should work with any Ruby on Rails application, if required software is installed.
Katipo has implemented a new plugin called convert_attachment_to which is bundled with Kete, but also available for separate git checkout at the following address if you would like to use it with another Ruby on Rails application:

If enabled in Kete, it allows a user to take the content of an uploaded PDF, MS Word, HTML, or plain text document (sans images and linking) and automatically load the Kete document's description field with it via the "replace description with document text" option.
This plugin requires other software to be installed on your server to work which is why it is disabled by default. For more information, please see the README.
