This is a decent overview of issues with embedding multimedia on web pages.
Of note is that it includes the strategy that is present in Kete 1.2. That of simply linking to the multimedia object rather than displaying it inline.
It then goes on to actually cover embedding, however it is relatively dated, so take it as an overview of concepts.
