Topic: Implemented Enhancement: Improve placing pin on Google Map widget after a search

Topic type:

Currently you have to search for a location, drag the search result pin from its location, then drag it back to the location to set pin. This is counterintuitive and leads to user error. This enhancement is to refine the user interface for confirming the location after search results on the map.

This was discussed during the November 25th, 2009 Kete Community Meeting.

Lots of people have complained about having their "choice for location ignored". This is the result of bad interface for confirming that a Google Map search result is the point that you want to choose.

We need to add a way of having the user confirm that the search result is the location they want and transforming that from a search result pin to "user placed pin" that then gets recorded as the chose location.

One possible solution is to display the information bubble with a checkbox that prompts the user with "Is this the location?" or some similar language.  Checking the box would transform the pin to a "placed pin".

Some research will be required to see what solutions are possible and that users understand.

Update: This enhancement has been implemented. See the ticket or the resulting commit.
